Update Post

I have been so busy but hopefully I will be able to get back into doing regular blog posts now and thought I’d start it off with a little update post.

I had my A-level exams which were literally taking up ALL of my time as I was cramming in facts, reading through textbooks, making revision cards etc. Hopefully all the hard work paid off but I have to wait another week to get the results which I am really nervous about as they decide where I am going to university next month. Since exams I’ve basically just been relaxing, enjoying the fact that I don’t have tons of work to do! Instead I’ve been meeting up with my friends and seeing my boyfriend and it’s just been great. I went to America, storming through the Disney parks as well as Seaworld where I got to feed dolphins which is just amazing, and then Universal Studios. The new Harry Potter part of Universal Studios is absolutely amazing! We went to ‘Escape from Gringotts’ first thing in the morning which meant getting on after an hour while the queue was four hours long when we got off of it! The ride was a total favourite of mine but sadly due to the queues I only got to ride it once.

I also went away for a few days with my boyfriend and his family doing lots of swimming, biking, badminton and other sporty things which was really nice. During July I took part in Camp NaNoWriMo, completing a 10,000 word count despite not finishing the story so hopefully I will be able to keep working on that because I just think it is really fun to do little creative projects like that. This time my novel is a fantasy following a girl who lives on a dying planet upon which a war rages between magic and science. I don’t really like my writing, I know how I want it to sound but I can never seem to get it how I want it to be which is why nobody has ever read anything I’ve written for NaNo. The point for me though is that it’s fun and I like having projects like that to focus on.

Anyway, I think that is it for my updates so I’ll catch you in a couple days with a new post. See you then!

NaNoWriMo November 2013!

So, today is the 1st of December, NaNoWriMo is over, and I did it! 50000 words in 30 days! I am really happy about this as I’ve attempted this goal for two years in a row and given up in a matter of days but then after doing Camp NaNo in the summer I felt a bit more confident. It wasn’t until I found @NaNoWordSprints on twitter that my word count really began to shoot up; on the day I discovered them I had 10000 words when I was meant to be at 28000, in that day I wrote 4000, and continued to write more for the rest of the month. I did only reach the goal on the very last day, and with only four words to spare as I did 50004 in total but I am really pleased as part of me was sure I couldn’t do it. My word count graph is a bit odd looking though with sudden spurts of words when I spent most of the day just sprinting it, and then there are a couple days where I was away too so wrote nothing (plus days where I wrote nothing just because I felt lazy);

ImageMy novel is called ‘The Pilgrimage of Love’, a name I might change in edit and is all about a girl who is dumped by her boyfriend as he goes to university and they can’t survive the distance. She wants to get his attention and get him to talk to her again as she loves him and so obviously wants him back, so spontaneously decides to walk there. The novel is then set during this walk as it is over 500 miles in total and she meets a lot of people, and goes through quite a few mini-adventures. I didn’t realise until afterwards but the idea is sort of similar to my camp nano novel in that it is a romance novel taking place over the time of a long walk, so maybe next time I’ll try a dramatic change and go to sci-fi or something. I think sci-fi might be good as you can add in lots of description for all the foreign things and I had a bit of trouble reaching my word count, finishing the story a couple thousand early and having to  add to scenes.

Anyway, doing all of this was great fun, especially thanks to the fact that I knew a few other people doing it and got involved with the word sprints community. It’s definitely something I would recommend to anyone as you can change the word goal and write less if 50000 is too daunting, and there are no rules on what it is that you are writing, it could literally be anything. If you want to check it out, there are about 300000 people on there already and the site is; http://nanowrimo.org/dashboard.

I’ll post again soon as I have a few films and bits from during nano that I haven’t posted, and here are some of the winner badges for this year with the 8-bit video game theme;

Blog Posts!

Okay, so I haven’t posted for about 10 days and I’m kind of stressed with everything going on right now so probably won’t be back to normal posting for a little bit more although I was doing it just as I felt like it or had something to say anyway. I’m currently applying to universities which has taken a bit of time, I have loads of college work I need or want to get done, and I’m taking part in NaNoWriMo with a 50,000 word count goal which I’m behind on. Hopefully I won’t have to prioritise over Nano as I would love to complete it, although I’ll probably do a post on it at the end of the month anyway. I did just write a post about both all of this and Breaking Bad the TV show, but sadly I mis-clicked and that all disappeared to be seen at some other date when I have time to write another post on it, as at the minute I feel bad typing up anything that isn’t my Nano novel. We will see!
